PET/CT is changing outcomes on Vancouver Island
Construction of the Gordon Heys Family PET/CT Suite at BC Cancer – Victoria was completed in July 2019, with thanks to the Heys family and more than 3,500 donors and is now enhancing care for patients across Vancouver Island.
To date, 1, 740 residents of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands have received a PET/CT scan at BC Cancer – Victoria.
The PET/CT team at BC Cancer – Victoria reflects that since the beginning of the program, they have heard countless expressions of gratitude for having a PET/CT scanner closer to home. In less than a year they have witnessed how it has had a significant impact on province-wide wait-times.
As of April 27th, 2020, the radioactive tracer required to complete PET scans is now being delivered by Helijet. This allows the team to increase capacity to scan up to 16 patients per day – 20 more patients per week!
